There was mixed news in Australian Open qualifying for the British ladies, as Johanna Konta came through a tight three-set affair but Anne Keothavong fell at the first hurdle.

Konta has shown real promise since securing a British passport and her battling qualities came to the fore in her win over Anastasija Sevastova.

Konta started well and controlled a first set she took in 33 minutes, but her Latvian opponent rallied in the second and took a tense tight break in which Konta squandered match points.

However, the setback did not play on Konta's mind for long as she matched Sevastova and grabbed the vital break of serve that secured a 6-3 6-7(8) 6-4 success.

Keothavong's bid for a place in the main draw came to a halt, as she was beaten in straight sets by Grace Min.

Keothavong was seeded 22 in the qualifying draw and strongly fancied against an opponent ranked 178 in the world, but the Brit showed weakness on serve - she was broken on seven occasions in a 7-5 7-5 defeat.
