Azarenka back on track with mauling of Vesnina

Victoria Azarenka returned to her imperious form of earlier in the Australian Open with a demolition of Elena Vesnina, while Serena Williams crushed Maria Kirilenko.

Azarenka was awesome for her first two rounds, but had a wobble before overcoming Jamie Hampton in the third round. Normal service was resumed on Monday as she secured a 6-1 6-1 win.

Vesnina did little to aid her cause, as she dropped her opening service game with a double fault and it set the tone for the rest of the match. Vesnina matched Azarenka on the winner count, nine in total, but her errors were into the teens by the end of the match.

Azarenka ran through the opening set with three breaks, and although Vesnina broke the No.1 seed's serve at the start of the second she failed to win another game as Azarenka secured a place in the quarter-finals in 57 minutes.

Caroline Wozniacki's title bid came to a halt at the hands of Svetlana Kuznetsova who secured a 6-2 2-6 7-5 success.

Wozniacki has looked to be in decent form this year, but she came up against Kuznetsova sizzling form. The Russian took the first set with ease, which was a similar story in reverse in the second for Wozniacki.

The third was a tight affair, but Kuznetsova kept firing winners - 18 in total - and it took her to victory when she broke in the 11th game and served out for the match.

Williams was ruthless in her 6-2 6-0 win over Kirilenko. The 14th seed Kirilenko did not play badly, but she had no answer to the power of Williams.

The tournament favourite powered down six aces and hit 22 winners as she breezed through to a quarter-final with Sloane Stephens.

Stephens produced a mixed display but was able to steel herself in the third set to claim a 6-1 3-6 7-5 win over Bojana Jovanovski to set up a quarter-final with either Serena Williams or Maria Kirilenklo.
