Great Britain survived a scare before getting the better of Portugal to keep their hopes of progressing out of Fed Cup Europe/Africa Group 1 alive.

Judy Murray's team had been hugely impressive in sweeping aside Bosnia-Herzegovina and Robson kicked off the clash with Portugal with a confident and composed 6-2 6-1 win over Margarida Moura who found trouble on serve - sending down eight double faults.

British No. 1 Heather Watson followed Robson on court, but she was stunned in straight sets by world No. 130 Michelle Larcher de Brito.

Watson never truly recovered from dropping the first set 6-1 in 25 minutes and Larcher de Brito cemented her win with five aces in the second set.

Watson did not have chance to digest the defeat as she teamed up with Robson in the doubles and they secured the win when beating Larcher de Brito and Joana Vale Costa 6-2 6-1.

GB will face Hungary on Saturday to see who tops Group B. Should G beat Hungary, they will face the winner of Group B for the right to progress to the World Group II play-offs in April 2013.
