Andy Murray seeded fifth for Australian Open

Andy Murray has been seeded fifth for the Australian Open, which begins in Melbourne on January 18. Roger Federer is the top male seed, with last year's winner Rafael Nadal second, and Serena Williams is the leading female seed.
The seedings, based predominantly on the players' world rankings, place Novak Djokovic and Juan Martin del Potro above Murray in the men's draw. Dinara Safina and Svetlana Kuznetsova follow last year's winner Serena Williams - whose sister Venus is seeded sixth - in the list.
Justine Henin, playing in her first Grand Slam event since returning to the sport, has not been seeded. Her fellow Belgian Kim Clijsters, the winner of September's US Open, is seeded 15th.
Still looking to win his first Grand Slam title, Murray's main preparation for the event came during the Hopman Cup, where he reached the final with Laura Robson. He will go into the tournament on the back of a victory, after a convincing 6-1 6-4 win over 25th-ranked American Sam Querrey in an exhibition match in Melbourne on Thursday. The Scot exited last year's Open in the fourth round with a loss over five sets against Fernando Verdasco.
