Serena Williams enjoyed a straight sets victory over Mallory Burdette in the third round of the Family Circle cup, winning through 6-4 6-2 in just over an hour and fifteen minutes on court.

The world No. 1 recorded her 12th straight Family Circle victory and will now face sixth-seed Luci Safarova in the quarter-final.

In a high quality first set, Williams finally broke in the 10th game before holding to take the lead. Williams then took a stronghold early in the second set, racing into a 5-2 lead before closing out victory.

Venus WIlliams kept alive hopes of a first meet with her sister since 2009, coming through her rearranged third round match with 12th seed Varvara Levchenkco 6-2 4-6 6-2 to advance to the quarter-finals, where she defeated world No. 77 Madison Keys in straight sets 6-4 6-4 to book a semi-final spot.

Both Williams sisters' third round matches were postponed on Thursday due to rain, meaning that they had to resume play on Friday before following suit in their quarter-final ties shortly after.

Elsewhere, ninth seed Jelena Jankovic easily overcame qualifier Eugenie Boucard 6-2 6-1 in just over an hour to advance to the semi-final.
