Isner claims maiden clay-court title
John Isner defeated top-seeded Nicolas Almagro in the final of the US Men's Clay Court Championships to claim his maiden clay-court career title.
Fifth-seed Isner finished runner-up to Juan Monaco at the tournament in 2012, but went one better after defeating Spaniard Almagro 6-3 7-5 in one hour 21 minutes at the River Oaks Country Club to win his sixth career title.
Elsewhere, Tommy Robredo edged victory to claim his tenth clay-court trophy following a 7-6(6), 4-6, 6-3 defeat of second-seed Kevin Anderson at the Grand Prix Hassan II in Casablanca.
Robredo, who had not won a title since February 2011 and spent five months on the sidelines with a leg injury in 2012, stated his intention to take good form into the French Open in May.
"I'm very happy to win a title again after my injury," Robredo told the ATP official website. "It's just great. Those points will help me a lot in the ranking.
"The goal is to arrive in Roland Garros in the best form possible. After that I will sit down and have a look at my goals."
