Simon falls as Roger-Vasselin books Murray match

Gilles Simon was the biggest name to fall on the opening day of the Monte Carlo Masters, as the 11th seed was dumped out in straight sets by Argentina's Roberto Bautista Agut.

Bautista Agut, the world No. 59, seemed more in-tune on the clay in Monaco and, despite a late rally from his French opponent, held his nerve in a second set tiebreak to clinch a 6-3 7-6(6) success.

Simon was not the only seed to lose on Monday, with No. 15 Andreas Seppi falling to fellow Italian Fabio Fognini in three sets.

It looked like being a fairly straightforward first round win for Seppi when he rushed to the first set, but Fognini fought back impressively to take a 3-6 6-4 6-4 win.

The other two seeds in action both won - Marin Cilic needing three sets to see off Horacio Zeballos, while Milos Raonic was relatively untroubled in a 6-1 6-4 demolition of Julian Benneteau.

Meanwhile, Andy Murray's second round opponent will be Edouard Roger-Vasselin, after he beat Robin Haase 6-3 6-2.

Elsewhere, there were wins for Mikhail Youhzny, Nikolay Davydenko, Pablo Andujar and Jarkko Nieminen.
