Sore loser Serena slammed by Stephens

Serena Williams has come under fire from compatriot Sloane Stephens, who claims the world No. 1 refuses to speak to her after the pair met earlier this year.

Williams is currently competing at the Madrid Open, where she came through her first round clash against Yulia Putintseva 7-6(5) 6-1.

Stephens claims Williams is not the ultra-friendly character regularly seen in the public, insisting the 15-time major winner has shunned her ever since Stephens won an Australian Open showdown against her in January.

The pair compete on the same Fed Cup team, beating Sweden in April, but Stephens says their relationship off-court has been soured by Williams' behaviour.

"People should know. They think she's so friendly and she's so this and she's so that. No, that's not reality," Stephens said.

"She's not said one word to me, not spoken to me, not said 'hi', not looked my way, not been in the same room with me since I played her in Australia.

"And that should tell everyone something, how she went from saying all these nice things about me to unfollowing me on Twitter. You don't unfollow someone on Twitter, delete them off of BlackBerry Messenger. I mean, what for? Why?"

At 20 years of age Stephens is tipped for a bright future in the game, but she is adamant Williams deserves none of the credit for helping her get there.

"For the first 16 years of my life, she said one word to me and was never involved in my tennis whatsoever," she said. "I really don't think it's that big of a deal that she's not involved now.

"If you mentor someone, that means you speak to them, that means you help them, that means you know about their life, that means you care about them. Are any of those things true at this moment? No."
