Murray takes positives from Berdych defeat

Andy Murray is taking the positives from his quarter-final defeat to Tomas Berdych at the Madrid Open.

The Brit, who will climb above Roger Federer to world No. 2 on Monday, found his Czech opponent in sizzling form and was comprehensively beaten 7-6(3) 6-4.

Clay is Murray's least favourite surface, but he feels his game is improving with the French Open a couple of weeks away.

"This week was better than Monte Carlo, so it's going in the right direction," Murray said. "Tomas is a very good clay court player, and it was a close match. I had my chances."

Murray feels there are areas to work on, but the signs during practice have been positive.

"I think I'm playing okay," he said. "Some things I would like to do better, but I did play very well in practice in the build-up to this tournament. I played a lot of sets with a lot of tough players and I played very well."
