Juan Martin Del Potro has followed Andy Murray by withdrawing from the French Open, citing a virus.

Murray announced his decision to pull out of the year's second grand slam on Tuesday. The British No. 1 has a lower back issue and is focusing on being fit for Wimbledon.

Del Potro, who like Murray has a US Open title to his name, will also miss Roland Garros due to illness. He reached the quarter-finals last year before losing to Roger Federer.

"I am sad to miss an important tournament. They are the tournaments I always dream of winning," the 24-year-old told liderenderportes.com.

"I can get through this and rest and recover and prepare for the rest of the season at 100 per cent."
