Back injury forces Robson out of French Open doubles

British No. 1 Laura Robson has been forced to withdraw from the French Open women's doubles tournament to recover from a painful back.

The 19-year-old, who was beaten 6-3 6-2 by Caroline Wozniacki in the first round of the singles draw, was due to partner American Lisa Raymond.

But she will now return to London to prepare for her first event of the grass court season, the AEGON Classic in Edgbaston, which begins on June 10.

Robson is then expected to compete at the AEGON International in Eastbourne before heading to Wimbledon, which start on June 24, but her schedule will depend on her recovery over the next few weeks.

Robson's withdrawal will come as a disappointment to 11-time grand slam doubles champion Raymond, who had played in the women's doubles event at every slam since the French Open in 1995.

Raymond and Robson reached the final of the Sony Open in Miami in March and had high hopes of reaching the latter stages in Paris, but Robson had little choice but to follow her doctor's advice.
