Nadal sorry for Mandela death tweet

Rafael Nadal has issued an apology after tweeting his sadness about the death of Nelson Mandela, who remains in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

Former president of South Africa, Mandela was admitted to hospital at the weekend for treatment on a recurring lung infection.

The office of President Jacob Zuma issued a statement on Monday saying that the 94-year-old's "condition is unchanged".

But on Monday afternoon, a tweet on Nadal's account spoke of his sadness about the passing of Mandela.

Shortly afterwards a second tweet was posted, with Nadal issuing an apology for relaying false information.

Translation: "I had wrong information and now know #NelsonMandela has not left us. I wish him to be with us a long time. What he did will always be.".

Nadal was at Disneyland Paris on Monday to show off his French Open crown, which he won for the eighth time on Sunday by beating David Ferrer in straight sets.
