Robson not getting carried away after breakthrough

Laura Robson has moved quickly to play down expectations after she stormed into the second round of Wimbledon at the expense of the tenth seed on Monday.

Robson, 19, had former players including Virginia Wade and Pat Cash tipping her for greatness in the aftermath of her first round contest on Court One - an impressive 6-3 6-4 defeat of world No. 10 Maria Kirilenko.

The power of Robson's serve and ferocity of some of her groundstrokes suggested she could prove well suited to conditions at the All England Club in the weeks and years ahead, but the player herself refused to look too far ahead.

She will next be on court on Thursday, when she faces Colombia's Mariana Duque-Marino.

"I thought I could win today but I didn't expect to win," Robson said. "I'd love to win a couple more matches, but I don't want to get ahead of myself.

"I think the next one is going to be really tough, so I'm just focusing on that. I'll be taking it match by match, as I said before the tournament.''

Robson did acknowledge, however, that a victory over such a highly-ranked player has given her a lot of confidence in SW19.

She added: "It was a big one for me, because although I really like grass and I seem to play well on it, I've never actually done overly well here. I've only made the second round once."

While Robson will now turn to her second round meeting, compatriot Heather Watson is already out of the competition - suffering a 6-3 7-5 defeat to teenager Madison Keys earlier on Tuesday.

The 21-year-old believes she is still not quite at full fitness, having battled glandular fever earlier in the 2013 campaign.

"I feel like my game isn't back yet," Watson said. "My reactions are slow. I'm not moving like I usually move, getting balls back.

"I don't feel like my game's there yet, so that will come back with time, time to practise. I have a big gap now to get the training in, get some fitness training in. Definitely after grand slams I feel it's good definitely to have a few days off and rest. Then I definitely want to get running, get in the gym, get fit, get back to how I was playing before I got ill."

Tara Moore also went out on Tuesday, after a valiant battle with Kaia Kanepi.
