Serena Williams is ready to take up the gauntlet and face Andy Murray, but the world No. 1 wants the match to take place on clay.

A revisit of the 1970s Battle of the Sexes between Bobby Riggs and Billie Jean King has been talked about ever since Murray was taunted on Twitter that he would struggle to beat Williams.

Murray initially joked that he felt he would not beat Williams, but later gave more context by stating he would be open to a showdown - possibly in the bright lights of Las Vegas.

And Williams, who powered into round three of Wimbledon with victory over Caroline Garcia, has taken up the challenge.

"It would be fun," Williams said. "I doubt I'd win a point but that would be fun.

"Yeah, maybe we can have a showdown though he's probably one of the top three people I definitely don't want to play.

"I suppose I could get some points off him but I think I'd have to do it on clay.

"He loves playing on grass and I do too but I'm going to definitely go clay. And the more I think about it I think I can get a game."
