Marion Bartoli sealed her first grand slam title with a 6-1 6-4 win over Sabini Lisicki, six years after her defeat at the hands of Venus Williams in the final.

Bartoli was fired up throughout and she has admitted it is the realisation of a lifelong dream.

"I just can't believe it," she said. "I have dreamt about this for so long. I was there in 2007 and missed it so I know how Sabine feels and I am sure Sabine will be there in the future.

"It was so nice to win Wimbledon and I don't think in my wildest dreams I could win it with an ace so that was very special. I have been practicing my serve for so long so it is good that I saved it for the best moment.

"I want to thank my box. My dad is here today and that means so much.

"Just holding the trophy is amazing and it is a dream come true. I am so happy, it has been my dream since I was six. I also want to thank the crowd and I hope to be back again next year."

Sabine Lisicki failed to bring her best to the final and the German, who cut an emotional figure at the end of the match, has admitted the occasion got the better of her.

She said: "I think I was overwhelmed by the whole situation, but credit to Marion she has been in that situation before and handled it perfectly. She has been a force for so long and deserves it and I hope to get the chance to win one.

"I love this tournament and this court and I love you guys (crowd). You tried to help me get over my nerves, but Marion was too good.

"I just want to thank my team for all their support. We have been through so much, this is my first grand slam final and I hope to get the chance to win one."
