Federer continues post-Wimbledon revival

Roger Federer continued the recovery from his shock second round exit at Wimbledon with a routine 6-4 6-3 victory over Jan Hajek at the Hamburg Open.

It was not entirely comfortable for the No. 1 seed, however, as the Swiss wasted ten of his thirteen break points - including five match points - but eventually came through in little over an hour on court.

"I'm just still looking for the timing and the rhythm here, but the longer I stay in the tournament, the more confident I am that I'm going to play better and better as the tournament goes on," Federer said.

Federer, who is playing at tournament for the first time since 2008, is using a new racket as part of his revival and is optimistic of recording his second ATP World Tour title of the season.

"I guess it's to a degree some more getting use to, just to see how it reacts on every single shot," Federer added. "Clearly it reacts better to some shots.

"But it's important not to think of it the whole time, not to talk about it all the time, but more just sort of go with it, fight for every point, have the right mindset, be optimistic about playing here now and wanting to achieve a good result and that's what I'm doing."

Federer will now play Florian Mayer in the last eight.

Elsewhere, Fernando Verdasco was victorious after Jerzy Janowicz retired from their third round match, while Benoit Paire was beaten 6-3 2-6 6-2 by fifth seed Juan Monaco.

Veteran Tommy Haas overcame Carlos Berlocq in straight sets, but Dmitry Tursunov succumbed 6-4 6-3 to Argentinean qualifier Federico Delbonis.
