World No. 1 Serena Williams has vowed to treat her run at the Swedish Open the same as she would for any grand slam, as the American reflected on a 6-2 6-3 victory over Anna Tatishvili in Bastad.

It was not all plain sailing for Williams as she struggled to finish off the second set - at one time leading 5-0 before letting three match points pass her by.

However the No. 1 seed, who suffered a shock fourth round exit to eventual finalist Sabine Lisicki at Wimbledon, hit back and fired two aces in the final two points to seal her spot in the quarter-final.

"My main goal is to do well here," Williams said. "I love this city, but I really love the fans, and I feel like I want to do the best that I can here. I'm staying really focused, grand slam style.

"You never want to go to a tournament and not win, or at least not perform your best. I don't know if I'll end up winning the tournament this week, but I want to play some of my best tennis here."

Williams will now play world No. 54 Lourdes Dominguez Lino in the last eight.

Elsewhere, Dutch qualifier Richel Hogenkamp - ranked 278th in the world - recorded a monumental 6-1 2-6 6-3 upset over sixth seed Lesia Tsurenko while Flavia Pennetta was awarded victory after second seed Simona Halep retired.
