Williams wins 53rd WTA title
World No. 1 Serena Wilaliams provided the perfect response to her shock Wimbledon exit after overcoming home hope Johanna Larsson 6-4 6-1 to win the Swedish Open in Bastad.
The American edged a nervy first set, in which her serve was broken twice before she recovered to seize the momentum over eighth seed Larsson.
The second proved to be quite the opposite; the Swedish No. 1 was no match for Williams, who powered to complete her 51st victory of 2013 and clinch her seventh title of the year in less than an hour and a half on court.
Williams, 31, remains unbeaten on clay this season after success in Rome, Madrid and Charleston - and also claimed her 16th grand slam title on the red stuff at Roland Garros.
This is Williams' 53rd WTA title and also her maiden title at 'International' level, which has provided a great reaction to her last-16 SW19 exit to Sabine Lisicki earlier in July.
"It was really good to come here and win after a disappointing Wimbledon," Williams said. "So hopefully this confidence will help me for the rest of the year."
