Federer yet to settle on racket change

Roger Federer will continue to test out a new racket at the Swiss Open in Gstaad this week before deciding whether or not to stick with it for the build-up to the US Open.

Federer debuted the blacked-out Wilson racket - which has a larger, 98-square-inch head - in Hamburg last week, his first tournament since his shock second-round exit at Wimbledon.

Federer reached the semi-finals at the Bet-At-Home Open before being beaten by qualifier Federico Delbonis in the semi-finals, and is now back in Gstaad for the first time since winning the clay court event in 2004.

As for the new racket, Federer said it was too early to say if the switch was permanent.

"So far, I'm happy with this change, but I need many hours on the court to see if this is a good decision. I haven't yet taken the decision on whether to use it in the US. I still need to think it over," he said.

"There are players who have experienced problems when they changed racquets, Fernando Verdasco and to some extent Novak Djokovic."

Having been given a bye in the first round, Federer will play his opening match on Thursday against either German Daniel Brands or Marco Chiudinelli.
