Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has withdrawn from the Rogers Cup as he continues to receive treatment to the knee injury that forced him out of Wimbledon.

The world No. 8, who beat Roger Federer en route to the semi-finals at the Canadian Masters 1000 event last year, informed tournament director Eugene Lapierre of his withdrawal today.

"I'm sorry I cannot come to Montreal," Tsonga said in a statement. "The knee injury I suffered during Wimbledon requires me to continue my rehabilitation.

"I hope to be able to play at the US Open in late August. I wish you a good Rogers Cup and I will see you soon in Canada."

Tsonga, who reached the semi-finals of the French Open in June, had just lost the third set of his second-round match against Ernests Gulbis when he retired hurt, having received treatment to his left knee earlier in the match.

The Frenchman was one of seven players to retire before or during their match on day three at Wimbledon.
