Two-time US Open winner Monica Seles will be inducted into the tournament's Court of Champions during a ceremony before the women's final on September 8.

The US Tennis Association announced that Seles was selected for the honour by a panel of journalists.

Known for her two-tone grunts and two-handed swings, Seles spent more than 175 weeks ranked No. 1 and was elected to the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2009. She won the US Open in 1991 and 1992, part of her nine Grand Slam singles titles, including eight before she turned 20.

In 1993, she was stabbed in the back by a spectator during a changeover at a tournament in Hamburg, Germany, and was away from the tour for more than two years.
