A day after Novak Djokovic on the Montreal hardcourts, Rafael Nadal cruised over Milos Raonic to win his seventh title of the year.

Nadal needed eight minutes over the hour to win 6-2 6-2. Since returning from injury in February he has won 48 of 51 matches, including an eighth French Open.

With his main challenger overcome in yesterday's semi-final, Raonic, the first Canadian in the tournament's final since 1958, was always likely to prove an easier match for Nadal.

Nadal's serving was in a different league and he dropped only one point on his own serve in the opening set. Any flickering hopes of a comeback ended when Raonic double-faulted at break point down early in the second.

By reaching the final, the 22-year-old Raonic will move up to 10th in world rankings, a record for a Canadian. He will be the youngest player in the top 10. Nadal will move from fourth to third..
