Serena Williams progressed to her tenth semi-final of the year after overcoming Simona Halep 6-0 6-4 in four minutes over an hour.

The world No. 1 completed dominated the opening set against her Romanian opponent, only losing six points, with three of those coming from unforced errors from Williams as Halep was unable to make her presence felt in the match.

Halep emerged a different player in the second set as she recovered from a break and 3-1 down to level at 3-3, and she stayed with Williams as the pair moved to 4-4.

However, the strength of Williams came through as she took the next two games to wrap up a straight sets win, and a semi-final battle against former French Open champion Li Na awaits her.

Former world No. 1 Jelena Jankovic meanwhile got the better of 12th seed Roberta Vinci by the same scoreline to also make the last-four.
