Tomic's father denied US Open accreditation

Bernard Tomic's father has been denied accreditation for the US Open, with the US Tennis Association also set to make a decision on whether to refuse him entry to the event as a spectator.

John Tomic, who is also his son's coach, was barred from gaining official access to tournaments by the ATP and the International Tennis Federation until at least May 2014 after being accused of head-butting Bernard's hitting partner ahead of the Madrid Open earlier this year.

A request was put in by the player's agent for John Tomic to be accredited for the final grand slam of the year, but it has been turned down.

"We opted not to credential him," a spokesman said. "Our desire is to make it as difficult as possible for him to gain entry to the US Open.

"Our gate personnel that scan tickets will have been informed that he's an unwanted guest. It would be within our right to escort him off the grounds. However, we have not determined what our exact policy will be at this time."

Bernard Tomic is scheduled to play Albert Ramos of Spain in the first round at Flushing Meadows on Monday.

After winning his first-round match at Wimbledon this year, the younger Tomic criticized the ATP for preventing his father from attending tournaments, saying the tour rushed to judgment in the case.

Earlier this year, both the French Open and Wimbledon said John Tomic wouldn't be allowed entry to their grounds, even if he were to purchase a ticket.
