Robson crashes out in Tokyo
British No. 1 Laura Robson has crashed out of the Toray Pan Pacific Open in the first round after a straight sets defeat to Japan's Ayumi Morita in Tokyo.
Robson was beaten 7-6(4) 6-3 by an opponent ranked 24 places lower than her at 86 in the world.
There were two breaks of serve apiece in a tight first set, with Morita, 23, winning a tie-break to edge ahead. Morita then won the second set by taking advantage of a single break point.
Before the match, both players had one victory over the other this season, with Robson coming out on top at their last meeting in July in Carlsbad.
Morita will play Jelena Jankovic in round two.
