Ivanovic suffers shock loss in China
Ana Ivanovic has been dumped out of the China Open following a shock 6-4 6-4 second round defeat to Slovenian qualifier Polona Hercog.
Hercog, ranked 62 places down from 14th seed Ivanovic, needed little over an hour and a quarter to see off the former world No. 1 at the National Tennis Centre in Beijing.
Ivanovic struggled to reach top gear against Hercog, whose second serve proved a stumbling block for the 2008 French Open champion.
Elsewhere, eighth seed Jelena Jankovic endured a tough test against qualifier Galina Voskoboeva, eventually running out a 6-3 5-7 6-3 winner to seal a spot in the third round. Their match lasted over two and a half hours on the Moon Court. Jankovic will now face Carla Suarez Navarro in the third round.
Svetlana Kuznetsova was beaten 4-6 6-4 6-1 in little over two hours by Andrea Petkovic. The German will play Lucie Safarova in round three.
Third seed Agnieszka Radwanska completed the third round line-up after she enjoyed a comfortable 6-3 6-2 win over Madison Keys.
With the third round starting on Wednesday, former Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova fought out a 6-4 6-7(3) 6-3 win over fifth seed Sara Errani in just shy of two and a half hours on the Lotus Court.
Kvitova will play Li Na in the quarter-finals after Na overcame Sabine Lisicki 7-5 6-4 in her third round match.
