Robson crashes out after bright start
Laura Robson was unable to build on a positive start to her match as the British No. 1 crashed out of the Japan Open, losing 6-4 6-4 to Kimiko Date-Krumm.
Robson began the match well after opening up a 3-0 lead in the first set. However, Date-Krumm, who defeated Robson at the event three years ago in straight sets, hit back to square the encounter at 3-3.
Not for the first time in her career, Robson struggled on her serve, faltering in the ninth game as Date-Krumm secured another break to take the first set.
And Robson's wobbles on her serve continued in the second set as Date-Krumm broke once again in the ninth game, and went on to clinch another victory over the Briton in the tournament.
