Laura Robson has to become a 'self-believer' if she is to fulfil her potential, says legendary tennis coach Nick Bollettieri.

The 19-year-old this week split with coach Miles Maclagan following a four-month period with Andy Murray's former mentor.

The Briton has suffered a disappointing end to the campaign after slumping to a first-round defeat in Osaka and Tokyo and the second round in Beijing.

And while it was being reported that Robson will head to Bollettieri's academy in Florida during the off-season, the coach who nurtured the likes of Andre Agassi and Maria Sharapova has revealed to The Tennis Space that this will not be the case.

And he believes that Robson requires a change in order to make her mark on the WTA circuit.

"I think she has to decide what is her style of play and then build her strategy around what she can and can't do," he said.

"That's much better than just hitting a load of balls. She needs to keep it simple and then try to do it as many times as she can. Right now, as a talent, she certainly doesn't lack for much. I think she's got to become a self-believer and build a little more strategy in her game."

On the change of coach, Bollettieri said: "Something I said in my new book about Jelena Jankovic, she changed coaches more times than I changed wives. And that's true, right now."
