Wawrinka unhappy with Nadal coaching during match

Wawrinka: It's tough to play against Nadal

Stanislas Wawrinka believes Rafael Nadal should have been given a warning for receiving instructions from his coach and uncle Toni during his loss at the ATP World Tour Finals.

Nadal beat Wawrinka 7-6(5) 7-6(6) to advance to the last four of the tournament, and also secured the year-end world No. 1 ranking.

But after exchanging words with the umpire during the second set about Nadal receiving instructions from his camp, Wawrinka felt something should have been done.

"It's nothing personal against Rafa or Toni. We all know, the players, the umpire, that Toni is always trying to help Rafa. That's normal, that's part of the game, but when it's too much, it's too much," Wawrinka said after his defeat.

Toni Nadal admitted in July to breaking ATP and grand slam rules by offering coaching during matches, saying the rules were the problem and not him.

Nadal was warned for taking time in-between points during the opening set on Wednesday, and Wawrinka admitted that the umpire did not want to hand the world No. 1 a second warning just because of who he was.

"I didn't agree with the umpire that he didn't tell him something or that he didn't give him a second warning just because it was Rafa. We all saw it, and I was there. Before every point he [Toni] was trying to coach him.

"Again it's nothing against Rafa or Toni. That's in the rules, but normally the umpire should have done something."
