Roger Federer and his agent Tony Godsick have formed an agency called Team8, which is set to represent fellow tennis stars Juan Martin del Potro and Grigor Dimitrov.

The agency, which is also being backed by two American investors, is set to promote Federer, but Team8 has captured the signature of 2009 US Open champion Del Potro, the man who beat Federer in that final, and the player who he faced three times towards the backend of 2013, including a round-robin shootout at the ATP World Tour Finals in November.

As well as Del Potro, rising talent Dimitrov has also been snapped up, although there has yet to be confirmation from Godsick of the Bulgarian joining the agency. The New York Times say that Dimitrov confirmed he would join via email.

Godsick, who worked for agency International Management Group for almost 20 years, left the firm with Federer in 2012.

"We're trying to be a boutique agency that will manage just a small stable of iconic athletes," Godsick told the New York Times.

"We're really going to try to be selective here. Some of the other groups, they look to sign as many players as they can and hope a few of them stick and make it, and they really go after the juniors. We're not going to."
