Edberg to coach Federer in 2014

Roger Federer is the latest tennis player to team up with former stars of the sport after announcing Stefan Edberg has joined his coaching staff.

Novak Djokovic recently revealed Boris Becker as his new coach for the upcoming 2014 season, while Ivan Lendl currently coaches Andy Murray.

Federer, a 17-time grand slam champion, failed to reach the final of a grand slam in the 2013 season - the first time this has happened since 2002. The Swiss finished the year as world No. 6.

Current coach Severin Luthi will share the coaching duties with Edberg, who is scheduled to work with Federer for ten weeks - starting at the upcoming Australian Open in January.

"Stefan was my childhood hero, and I am really looking forward to spending time and learning from him," Federer stated via his official Facebook page.

Federer parted ways with former coach Paul Annacone in October. Edberg is a six-time grand slam champion, having won the Australian Open, US Open and Wimbledon twice. He also reached the French Open final in 1989.
