Rafael Nadal fought back from 3-0 down in the second set to beat Ernests Gulbis 7-5 6-4 to earn a place in the semi-finals at the Qatar Open.

The Spaniard missed out on the Australian Open last year as he completed seven months out of the game with injury, but insists the first grand slam of the year is not on his mind just yet.

"I'm thinking about Doha, not looking ahead to Australian Open," Nadal, who won both the French and US Opens last year, said.

The world No. 1 will play Peter Gojowczyk in the last four after the German qualifier beat compatriot Dustin Brown 6-3 3-6 7-6(5).

It will be the first meeting between Nadal and Gojowczyk, who is currently 162nd in the rankings.

Elsewhere, Gael Monfils eased past Daniel Brands 6-2 6-1.

Monfils will take on Andy Murray's conqueror Florian Mayer in the semi-finals after the German overcame Victor Hanescu 6-4 6-7(8) 6-4.
