Djokovic makes light work of Mayer

Defending champion Novak Djokovic booked his place in the third round of the Australian Open following a 6-0 6-4 6-4 win over world No. 98 Leonardo Mayer.

Djokovic, who is aiming to become the first man since 1968 to win five Australian Open crowns, breezed past his opponent in 22 minutes in the opening set to the loss of no games.

And with Mayer improving and sticking with Djokovic in the following two sets, the man who has won the event for the past three years managed to claim the victory in straight sets.

"I'm definitely satisfied with my performance today, it was better than my first match … hopefully I'm going to continue raising my level," Djokovic said. "You have to find that mental edge in the tough moments and overcome the conditions."

David Ferrer was taken to four sets by Adrian Mannarino, but the little Spaniard was able to come through 7-6(2) 5-7 6-0 6-3 winner. Tomas Berdych also progressed with a 6-4 6-1 6-3 win over Kenny De Schepper.

Stanislas Wawrinka also came through despite a wobble in the third set, with the Swiss beating Alejandro Falla 6-3 6-3 6-7(4) 6-4.

Richard Gasquet defeated former ATP World Tour Finals champion Nikolay Davydenko 7-6(3) 6-4 6-4, with last year's Wimbledon finalist Jerzy Janowicz getting the better of Pablo Andujar 4-6 7-6(3) 7-6(5) 6-3.
