Switzerland ease into quarter-finals of Davis Cup

Switzerland are into the quarter-finals of the Davis Cup for the first time in a decade after they wrapped up victory against Serbia.

With Roger Federer and newly-crowned Australian Open champion Stanislas Wawrinka opening up a 2-0 lead in the singles rubbers on Friday, Marco Chiudinelli and Michael Lammer won the doubles encounter 7-6(3) 3-6 7-6(2) 6-2 against Nenad Zimonjic and Filip Krajinovic to hold an unassailable 3-0 lead.

France were 3-0 winners against Australia, with Richard Gasquet and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga clinching a 5-7 7-6(4) 6-2 7-5 victory in the tie in the doubles against Chris Guccione and Lleyton Hewitt. France will take on Germany in the quarter-finals after they overcame Spain.

Back-to-back Davis Cup champions Czech Republic hold a 2-1 lead over the Netherlands heading into the final day.

Tomas Berdych and Radek Stepanek won the doubles match 7-5 1-6 7-6(2) 7-6(4) against Robin Haase and Jean-Julien Rojer.

Elsewhere, Japan lead Canada 2-1, with Kazakhstan 2-1 in front against Belgium.
