Great Britain off to winning start in Fed Cup

Heather Watson and Johanna Konta guided Great Britain to an unassailable 2-0 lead over Latvia in their Fed Cup World Group II play-off tie in Budapest.

Great Britain are one of 17 nations in Hungary bidding to secure a play-off match for a spot in the World Group II.

With the win wrapped up against Latvia, captain Judy Murray will see her side face Romania on Friday, and then take on Hungary on Saturday.

Watson got Great Britain off to a winning start with a 7-5 6-1 win over Jelena Ostapenko, while Konta saved a match point and came from 5-2 down in a final set against Diana Marcinkevica to win 6-3 4-6 7-5.

In the dead rubber doubles match, Latvia won 1-6 7-5 7-6(5), securing the win in over two hours at 11.19pm local time.
