Berdych win bumps Murray to lowest ranking in six years

Tomas Berdych won his first ATP tour title in 16 months on Sunday following an impressive 6-4 6-2 win over Marin Cilic in the final of the ABN Amro World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam, which also meant bad news for Andy Murray.

As a result of Berdych's victory and respective ranking points, the Czech has leap-frogged Murray as world No.6; as a result, the British No.1 now lies seventh in the world rankings, his lowest position in nearly six years.

Berdych immediately saved three break points against Cilic and quickly established an advantage with a break of serve; from there, Berdych would not face any more break points as he cruised to victory.

Cilic helped his opponent's cause with 23 unforced errors as Berdych wrapped up victory in one hour 15 minutes on court.

It proved to be a welcome win for Berdych, who lost all three of the finals he contested last season and was the only player in the world's top 10 not to secure a title. The last time Berdych won in a final was against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in 2012 in Stockholm.

Meanwhile, David Ferrer became the first player to win three consecutive Copa Clara titles as he defeated Fabio Fognini 6-4 6-3 in Buenos Aires.

Elsewhere, Japan's Kei Nishikori defended his US National Indoor Tennis Championships title, beating Croatian Ivo Karlovic 6-4 7-6(0) in Memphis.
