Murray fights back in Acapulco

Andy Murray recovered from a poor start at the Abierto Mexicano Telcel to beat Pablo Andujar and reach the second round in Acapulco.

The reigning Wimbledon champion, playing for the first time in Mexico, lost the opening five games as he was in danger of being whitewashed in the first set. Despite losing it 6-3, he claimed the following two sets 6-1 6-2 to avoid an upset.

Murray, who has opted to play in Mexico rather than the Dubai Tennis Championships this year, staged a brief comeback in the first set after going down 5-0. Andujar, who took Rafael Nadal to a final set tiebreak last Saturday at the Rio Open in the semi-finals and held match points, claimed the opening set after Murray had saved four set points.

Murray claimed a crucial break in the fourth game of the second set to go 3-1 in front, and went on to level the tie to force a decider, where the British No.1 raised his performance to only drop two games to book his spot in the second round.

"I had a difficult start, it was 10 minutes in the match and I was down 5-0, but I started to play more aggressively to get the win and hopefully I can have a good week here," Murray said.

"The first set was extremely challenging, he was dictating the points, but later on he was getting tired and put the pressure on him."

Murray is set to face Joao Sousa in the next round, and on his following opponent he said: "I played Joao once in Australia, he was new on the tour then and he has improved. He's playing good tennis, he's good on clay and on hard courts.

"He plays similar to Pablo, hopefully I can play aggressively from the start."
