Tomic thrashed by Nieminen in record time
Bernard Tomic suffered a 6-0 6-1 defeat to Jarkko Nieminen in the first round of the Miami Masters in what turned out to be the quickest match in the history of the ATP World Tour.
The encounter lasted just 28 minutes, eclipsing the previous record of the shortest match by one minute, which was set in 1996 when Greg Rusedski defeated Carsten Arriens at the Sydney International 6-0 6-0 in 29 minutes.
Tomic, who was playing his first match since retiring during his clash with world No.1 Rafael Nadal at the Australian Open, only won 21% of points in the match, with Nieminen taking 48 out of 61 points to race into the second round.
Lleyton Hewitt meanwhile reached 600 match wins by coming from a set down to defeat Robin Haase 3-6 6-3 6-3.
Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, on 942 and 675 wins respectively, are the only active players on the circuit with more victories than Hewitt, as the former world No.1 and 2002 Wimbledon champion battled from behind to reach the last 64.
