French Open prize money raised to over £20.6m

Prize money at the French Open will rise to more than €25 million (£20.6m) this year, an increase of €3m (£2.48m) from last year.

The men's and women's champions will receive €1.65m (£1.36m) each, €150,000 (£123,974) more than 2013, and losing finalists will receive €825,000 (£681,859), a raise of €75,000 (£61,987).

Tournament director and French Tennis Federation director Gilbert Ysern says "this notable increase in Roland Garros prize money is part of the plan that was put in place for 2013 until 2016."

There are also notable increases for losers in the second, third and fourth rounds. Last year, the prize money went up from €18.7m (£15,455,475) to €22m (£18,182,912). The tournament begins on May 25.
