Andy Murray breezed into the second round at Wimbledon with a straight-sets win over Jan Hajek and hit back at suggestions he would not bow in front of the Queen this week.

The Queen is to make her first appearance at Wimbledon since 1977 when she graces Centre Court on Thursday. Murray's win over Hajek puts him in line to play on Thursday but on the eve of his first-round game he was greeted with headlines which suggested he was intending not to bow.

Murray came off court on Tuesday happy with his day's work, but far from happy with the way his comments had been construed.

"It will be great," Murray told the BBC about the prospect of playing in front of the Queen. "A few things came out in the press that were very, very untrue. It was totally unfair.

"We just asked the organisers what the etiquette was as things have changed in the last few years. I was always going to bow, I just wanted to make sure if my opponent was going to and if we were going off the court at the same time what the etiquette was."

Murray's main focus will be on ensuring he does not suffer from a case of the jitters.

"A bow should be pretty simple, but you never know I might get a bit nervous and mess it up," he said.
