Martina Navratilova has insisted a shake up of the LTA is required for British tennis to drag itself out of the doldrums.

Just two days in at Wimbledon and Andy Murray is the only Brit standing in either of the singles draws. High hopes were held for the likes of Elena Baltacha, Heather Watson and Anne Keothavong, but all three squandered good chances in their first-round defeats.

Navratilova, a nine-time singles champion at Wimbledon, admits it is a cycle that will continue unless changes are made at the top of the British game.

"It is another similar story for British tennis and it will be the same this time next year," the American said. "I don't know where the money goes. I don't know what they do with it. Nothing ever changes because people just want to hold on to their jobs.

"They weather the storm at Wimbledon and maybe a couple of people are shuffled around but it is still same old, same old.

"You just have to copy the French system or the Czech Republic - they have nine players in the main draw with a country of 10 million people.

"I came out of there so did Jana Novotna, Helena Sukova, Ivan Lendl - even Martina Hingis in an off-handed way through her mum."
