Andy Murray came from a set down to beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and book his place in the semi-finals at Wimbledon for a second time in as many years.

The British No. 1 showed impressive patience against the powerful Frenchman, outlasting his opponent to seal a a 6-7(5) 7-6(5) 6-2 6-2 victory.

Murray, who came into the quarter-finals as the only player in the men's draw not to have dropped a set, soon lost that claim after Tsonga took the opener on a tie-break.

In the battle of the aggressive Frenchman against the Scottish counter-puncher, it was Tsonga who came out on top; his serve-and-volley tactics proving problematic for Murray.

But as Murray began to get the measure of Tsonga's serve, Murray grabbed an early break in the second set and looked to be on course to level the match. However, the big-hitting Tsonga fought his way back into the set, forcing a second tie-breaker.

With Murray having won just three of his 11 tie-breakers this season, Tsonga had good reason to be confident, but in the end it was over-confidence that cost him the set.

At 5-5 in the tie-breaker, Tsonga left Murray's return, thinking it was long, only for it to land on the line. It proved to be decisive, and the momentum swung firmly in Murray's favour.

After two tense and highly attritional opening sets, Tsonga began to tire and his challenge waned. The third and fourth sets were plain sailing for Murray, as he grabbed double breaks in each to wrap up the victory to seal a semi-final clash with world No. 1 Rafael Nadal.

"It will be great match; it's always fun to play against him," Murray said of his semi-final opponent. "We've played four times in the Slams and it's 2-2. I'm looking forward to it.

"I'm playing well just now, obviously today was another good win and I'll have to play well again in the semis."
