Hungry Djokovic will never get bored of winning Wimbledon

Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic insists he is hungry to win more grand slams and will never get bored of winning Wimbledon.

An emotional Djokovic defeated Roger Federer in an epic five-set final on Sunday, eventually sealing his second Wimbledon crown - and eighth grand slam in total - after a tumultuous match which lasted nearly fours hours.

"This is a tournament I always dreamed of winning, so it never gets boring winning Wimbledon that's for sure," Djokovic, the new world No.1, said.

"Winning in 2011 was the highlight of my career but this win over Roger is probably the best grand slam final I have ever played in my life."

It has been a difficult journing for the Serbian. Having lost five of his six previous grand slam finals, Djokovic admitted his wait for a second SW19 title, combined with a recent stretch of poor form, had made him anxious - and then Federer revived in the fourth set to get the nerves jangling again.

"Of course it started playing with my confidence and I had some doubts," Djokovic said. "Of course people told me things, trying to help, but I managed to overcome this and I was the one to find a way. Today was a huge test, a mental challenge.

"I started doubting myself a bit and I needed this win a lot. I'm going to try to use it now in the best possible way and for my confidence to grow for the rest of the season and my career."

His confidence will not be the only thing regrown over the rest of the season. The Centre Court groundsman may have a few choice words for Djokovic who, after finally converting a second championship point, knelt to taste a few blades of grass, as he did after clinching the title in 2011.

"The taste hasn't changed much," Djokovic said. "I thought there was less grass than a few years ago, so I had a little bit of the soil as well.

"Nevertheless, it tasted like the best meal I've ever had in my life, probably. It just came to me. I just wanted to remind myself how it tasted, it has been three years since I won it. It's so special to play on Centre Court in the finals of the biggest event in the world."

Djokovic insists he will now take a break to spend time with fiancée Jelena Ristic, who is expecting their first child, ahead of their wedding in Montenegro next week.

"I think I can lose the chapter of my tennis career to have a few weeks to rest and enjoy and be with my fiancée."
