Roger Federer slipped to No. 3 in the world rankings for the first time since November 2003 following his quarter-final exit at Wimbledon.

Federer's defeat to Tomas Berdych was the first time the six-time Wimbledon champion had failed to reach the final since 2002, while his conqueror reached his first Grand Slam final and earned a career-high eighth.

And after a semi-final appearance at the French Open last month, the Czech now believes he can break into the world top five. "That's what I'm trying to do," said Berdych. "Right now I'm still climbing higher and higher. [I've] grown up a little bit, got older and got more experience [over the past year]."

Rafael Nadal is now nearly 4000 points clear of his nearest rival after amassing 2000 points from his victory at Wimbledon. After his fifth title of the season the Spaniard now has 10,745 points, while Novak Djokovic, who replaces Federer as world No. 2 has 6,905. British No. 1 Andy Murray remains at No. 4 after his semi-final defeat to Nadal.

Andy Roddick drops to nine in the world rankings after his shock defeat to Yen-Hsun Lu in the quarter-finals, while Lu leaped forty places from No. 82 to No. 42.

In the women's rankings, Vera Zvonareva moves back into the top ten following her first Grand Slam final, while surprise semi-finalists Petra Kvitova and Tsvetana Pironkova jumped up to No. 29 and 35 respectively.
