Andy Murray is through to the last eight of the Rogers Cup after Richard Gasquet pulled out of their scheduled clash with an abdominal strain.

Due to Gasquet's decision to withdraw, Murray received a walkover to the quarter-finals of the Toronto event where he will face Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who secured a shock victory over Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic.

Frenchman Tsonga rallied to a straight sets victory and defeated the Serb, who was playing in his first tournament since he won the SW19 title and got married, in little over an hour on court.

Tsonga dominated world No.1 Djokovic during his 6-2 6-2 win and will be hoping to take the same form into his clash with Murray. Djokovic, though, looked to be carrying the effects of his lengthy battle with Gael Monfils on Wednesday.

"For me today it was great," Tsonga said. "I played a good match. Soon in the match I was in good condition. I served pretty well, I was pretty aggressive.

"I'm working hard every day. It's not every day you get the rewards of what you're doing every day during the year. You leave your family, practise hard, suffer a lot on the court. When you win a match like this, you just feel good."

Stan Wawrinka, the third seed, crashed out of the tournament as South African Kevin Anderson completed a 7-6(8) 7-5 victory in one hour 45 minutes on court.

Grigor Dimitrov survived a scare against Tommy Robredo after completing a 7-5 5-7 6-4 win in two hours. He will now face Anderson for a place in the final four. Fifth seed David Ferrer is also through after coming from a set down to defeat Ivan Dodig 1-6 6-3 6-3.

Canada's Milos Raonic also progressed, beating Julien Benneteau 6-3 4-6 6-4. Wimbledon semi-finalist Raonic will play Feliciano Lopez in the quarter-finals after he defeated Tomas Berdych 3-6 6-3 6-4.
