Serena Williams secured her first Cincinnati Masters title with a straight-sets victory against Ana Ivanovic.

The world No.1 triumphed 6-4 6-1 in two minutes over an hour to earn her maiden title at the event in six attempts since 2006.

"It's just amazing to finally win here," said Williams. "It was such a great week. She was playing so hard, hitting so many winners."

Her victory brings Williams' career tally to 62 titles with five so far in 2014 as she targets a sixth US Open crown when the last grand slam of the year kicks off on August 25.

Williams started slowly on Sunday, with Ivanovic - who conquered Maria Sharapova in the semi-finals - earning an early break.

However, Ivanovic fluffed a chance to earn a double break at 3-1, with 17-time grand slam winner Williams wresting back control with her big service before taking the first set.

Williams then breezed through the second to record a third win in four matches against Ivanovic this year, though Ivanovic did knock Williams out of the Australian Open in January.

"It's been a great week for me in Cincinnati," said Ivanovic. "I really want to congratulate Serena. I think I got a lesson on how to serve today. Maybe after you retire you can give me some tips!"
