Much has been made of the friendship between Williams and Wozniacki throughout this tournament. Despite having just battled it out on court, the two headed out on the town for a some well-earned fun after the final.

Neither of Kei Nishikori nor Marin Cilic have played in a grand slam final before, making this the first US Open final since 1997 where that has been the case and the first grand slam final since 2005.
