Roger Federer has acquired the services of Tim Henman's former coach Paul Annacone as he tries to regain his best form.

The former world No. 1 has been practising with the American in Zurich and will team up with Annacone on a temporary basis to begin with. Annacone, who also coached 14-time Grand Slam champion Pete Sampras, is leaving his position as head coach of British men's tennis in November - thus paving the way for a potential permanent arrangement with the Swiss.

"I've been looking to add someone to my team and I've decided to spend some days with Paul Annacone," Federer said on his website.

"As Paul winds down his responsibilities working for the Lawn Tennis Association, we will explore our relationship through this test period. Paul will work alongside my existing team and I am excited to learn from his experiences."

Federer bagged his fourth Australian title at the beginning of the year but a quarter-final loss to Robin Soderling at the French Open saw him lose his number one ranking which he had held for an astonishing 285 weeks.

A sore defeat to Tomas Berdych at his beloved Wimbledon followed and to add salt to the wounds he dropped to number three in the world - his lowest ranking for seven years.

Federer split from his coach of two and a half years, Tony Roche, shortly before the French Open in 2007 and has since received help from Darren Cahill and Jose Higueras at different stages.
