Miles Maclagan has revealed Britain's No. 1 tennis player Andy Murray is without a head coach due to a disagreement over the direction in which the 23-year-old's game should progress.

Murray split from Maclagan in July and he is yet to find a replacement as he enters the US hard court season, arguably the most important stage of his calendar. Alex Corretja remains in his long-term role as a part-time advisor.

Reasons for Maclagan's departure have been kept quiet until Sunday evening, but an interview with the BBC seemed to hint that Maclagan and Corretja were pulling in different directions. And when asked about the Scot's next coach, Maclagan also appeared to suggest that he had lost the confidence of the world No. 4.

"It all comes from the player," he told the BBC. "Any player has to decide whether he accepts the advice. He has to decide whether he trusts that guy. At the end of the day, it's the player out there.

"Andy employed me to give my opinions, and these ones he didn't quite agree with, so we are where we are now. I think in any organisation you need to be clear in the direction, so we knew if we didn't come to an agreement we could be where we are now.

"I had a way that I thought it should run, who should take care of which area, and the other guys clearly weren't quite in agreement with that - which is fine. People have their opinions, they're not right or wrong, they're just different."

Maclagan was keen, however, to insist that he remains on good terms with Murray despite the split.

"We left on very amicable terms. I've heard from him a couple of times since, a couple of messages," he said. "There's nothing to be angry about or disappointed in each other. We had a good relationship, we still have a good relationship."
