Djokovic cruises in Doha but gets Nadal doubles test

Novak Djokovic breezed into the quarter-finals of the Qatar Open with a 6-2 6-1 defeat of Sergiy Stakhovsky on Wednesday.

The World No.1 and top seed won 29 of 34 points when his first serve went in and saved all three break points he faced.

Nadal and Djokovic at the double

  • Despite his surprise defeat in the singles, Rafael Nadal remains in the doubles with partner Juan Monaco - who beat Benjamin Becker and Artem Sitak 2-6 6-3 10-6 to set up an all-star semi-final tie with Novak Djokovic and Filip Krajinovic, who edged third seeds Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah 6-3 7-5.

He will play seventh seed Ivo Karlovic next. Karlovic, who became just the third player to record 9,000 aces on Tuesday, beat qualifier Nikoloz Basilashvili 7-6(3) 6-3.

Third-seed Tomas Berdych also cruised into the last eight, beating Blaz Kavcic 6-1 6-2, and will take on Richard Gasquet, who saw off Simone Bolelli 6-3 6-2.

Fourth seed David Ferrer won the all-Spanish battle against Fernando Verdasco 6-3 6-2 and will next face German Dustin Brown, who posted a 7-6(9) 6-4 win over compatriot Jan-Lennard Struff.

Qualifier Michael Berrer, who stunned Rafael Nadal in the first round, fell at the second hurdle in a 7-6(1) 6-2 defeat to Ivan Dodig, who takes on Andreas Seppi in the quarter-finals after the Italian beat Brazilian Joao Souza 7-5 6-2.
